WAI'ANAE — Shaydon Kehano's 33-yard touchdown reception from Jaymason Lee with 47 seconds left rallied Castle past No. 5 Wai'anae, 23-16, last night in a quarterfinal of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red tournament at Raymond Torii Field.

The Knights (6-3) will play top-ranked Kahuku (9-0) 4:30 p.m. Friday in one semifinal at Aloha Stadium.

The Seariders (5-4), the West's second seed, are done for the season.

"It feels so good, it's unbelieveable," Lee said. "We were looking forward to this. This is what we practice for."

The Seariders punted with 1:13 left and the Knights took over from the Seariders' 49. Lee hit Kehano for a 16-yarder on first down, then hit Kehano again on a wide receiver screen to the left in which he ran through and dodged tacklers along the way to the end zone. He then caught a 2-point conversion pass from Lee to make it 23-16.

"We were really lucky tonight," Castle coach Nelson Maeda said.

Maeda said the wide receiver screen worked because the Seariders were showing blitz, leaving fewer defenders in the deep secondary for Kehano.

"We're just glad we're able to move on," Maeda said. "It gives us two more games. I'm just happy we don't have to turn in equipment tomorrow."

The Seariders had rallied from a 15-2 halftime deficit with TD runs in the third and fourth quarters from Henry Medeiros (six yards) and Eleu Wilson (four yards), respectively. Wilson's score, with 7:22 left in the game, came after Lee's third interception of the night. But Lee's next two passes came on the winning drive.

The Seariders returned the ensuing kickoff to the Wai'anae 40, but a personal foul against Castle put the ball at the Knights' 45. After three incomplete passes from QB Puletua Wilson, the Knights stopped him four yards short of a first down at the Castle 39 with 10 seconds left. The Knights took a knee to burn the remaining ticks.

The Knights jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a 15-2 lead at the half.

Castle scored on its second series of the game, moving 60 yards in four plays — Lee was 4 of 4 for 60 yards — culminating with a 13-yard TD pass to Timothy Torres. Lined up with a lone center formation, running back Garrett Paredes took a diagonal lateral snap to the unbalanced side and scored the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 with 5:08 left in the first quarter.

The Seariders fumbled on the second play of their ensuing series, giving Castle the ball at the Seariders' 25, where Lee hit Kehano on the first play for a 25-yard TD. Derek Hillegass' PAT made it 15-0 with 4:15 left in the first quarter.
