Already dealing with key injuries, the Seattle Seahawks took another hit yesterday, losing middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu for the season with a torn left pectoral muscle.

Seattle coach Jim Mora announced Tatupu would miss the rest of the season and need surgery following Seattle's 27-3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Tatupu, a three-time Pro Bowler, appeared to get hurt while tackling Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald late in the second quarter. Tatupu walked off holding his left chest area and with his left arm appearing limp.

"The Lofa thing is tough. It's a blow to our team. It's a blow to him as a man. He's such a competitor, he loves to play," Mora said.

Along with Tatupu's loss, Seattle played the second half without defensive end Patrick Kerney after he aggravated a groin injury. Mora said Kerney was injured on the final play of the first half and couldn't go in the second half. Kerney had a pair of sacks and a forced fumble before being sidelined.

Raiders All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was poked in the eye, later briefly returned and then left the game again with vision trouble.

Also in that game, Philadelphia left tackle Jason Peters is among three Eagles scheduled for MRI exams today following injuries.

Peters hurt his left knee midway through the first quarter and didn't return. Coach Andy Reid called Peters' injury a sprained knee, but it was thought to be worse. Defensive end Victor Abiamiri sprained a knee late in the game and linebacker Omar Gaither sprained a foot, Reid said.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards was knocked out of the team's 16-13 overtime win over the New York Jets with a concussion following a sack early in the second quarter yesterday. The Bills announced that Edwards had suffered a blow to the head, and coach Dick Jauron confirmed it was a concussion.

Jauron also said safety Donte Whitner left early with an injured ankle, defensive tackle Kyle Williams has an injured shoulder, cornerback Terrence McGee has a bruised chest and tight end Shawn Nelson suffered a concussion.

ELSEWHERE

Jets: Nose tackle Kris Jenkins left the loss to Buffalo with what coach Rex Ryan called a "probably severe" left knee injury.

Ryan didn't want to speculate further on the future of Jenkins, one of the team's defensive stars, until he had an MRI exam. Jenkins' leg was heavily wrapped after the game, and he left the stadium on crutches.

Lions: Quarterback Daunte Culpepper, playing in place of the injured Matthew Stafford, hurt his right hamstring on a scramble on the Lions' first possession of the third quarter against Green Bay. He took one more snap before Drew Stanton relieved him.

Vikings: Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield left the game against Baltimore with an injury to his right foot.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin also aggravated an injury to his left shoulder that had him listed as questionable for the game. Harvin got hurt while being tackled on a kickoff return and was later taken away on a cart.

Bengals: Defensive end Antwan Odom has a severe Achilles' tendon injury that will leave Cincinnati without its top pass rusher indefinitely.

Cincinnati starting defensive tackle Domata Peko also suffered a knee injury in the first quarter against Houston and didn't return, leaving the line depleted.

Patriots: Running back Sammy Morris didn't return after hurting his left knee on the Patriots' third offensive play against Tennessee, and Falcons running back Jerious Norwood went out with an injured right hip during the first half against the Chicago Bears.

• Browns linebacker Kaluka Maiava (Baldwin High) had five solo tackles, one assisted tackle and one forced fumble in 27-14 loss to the Steelers.

• Titans cornerback Ryan Mouton (University of Hawai'i) had five solo tackles and two assisted tackles in 59-0 loss to Patriots.

• Bears strong safety Al Afalava (Kahuku High) had three solo tackles in 21-14 loss to the Falcons.

• Bears outside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa (UH) had three solo tackles and one forced fumble in 21-14 loss to the Falcons.

• Falcons kicker Jason Elam (UH) was 3 for 3 in extra-point attempts in 21-14 win over the Bears.
