UH soccer loses in overtime

Jazmin Cardoso scored in the 100th minute as New Mexico State held off Hawai'i, 2-1, yesterday in overtime of a Western Athletic Conference soccer match at Las Cruces, N.M.
Crystal Burns scored in the 83rd minute for the Aggies (9-5-1, 4-0-1).
Ambree Ako, who finished with six shots, including two on goal, converted a free kick in the 85th minute to tie the score for the Rainbow Wahine (5-9-1, 1-3-0).
Hawai'i's Britta Bourne had a shot on goal early in overtime that was stopped by New Mexico State goalie Katie Graul. After UH goalie Kanani Taaca stopped a shot in the 95th minute, teammate Mari Punzal missed on a shot that went wide of the goal.
Soon after, Punzal was called for a foul in the box, leading to Cardoso's game-winner.
The Rainbow Wahine will host Nevada and Utah State in WAC matches this week.
GOLF
SHIGEZAWA PREVAILS
Punahou School senior Bradley Shigezawa shot a final-round 3-under 69 yesterday to win the seventh annual Turtle Bay Amateur by one stroke over defending champion TJ Kua.
Shigezawa, who won the title in 2007, had five birdie and two bogeys yesterday to finish with a two-round total of 142. Kua closed with a 70.
Derek Fukuda (79—155) won A flight, Randall Gibu (82—160) B flight and Darrell Chung (87—176) C flight.
UH FINISHES LAST
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team shot a final-round 323 yesterday to finish in last place of the 15-team Stanford Intercollegiate tournament.
The Rainbow Wahine shot a three-round total of 966. Arizona State won with 285—840.
Southern California's Jennifer Song earned medallist honors, firing a 4-under 67 for a 205 total to win by three strokes.
Corie Hou led UH with 75—231 for a share of 63rd. UCLA's Stephanie Kono (Punahou alum) tied for sixth with 68—212 and Denver's Kimberly Kim (former Big Island resident) tied for 30th with 69—219.
