Council considering ban on drivers' use of electronics
Maui officials are considering outlawing use of all electronic devices by drivers.
A proposal introduced by County Councilman Joe Pontanilla follows a push nationwide to ban the use of devices, including cell phones and text-messaging devices, that distract drivers.
Honolulu already has such a ban in place.
The bill calls for fines of up to $100 for a first offense and up to $250 for every subsequent violation.
The proposal exempts drivers calling 911.
