Beach park closed ahead of comfort station construction

The Kauai County Department of Parks and Recreation has closed Häena Beach Park in preparation for the construction of a new comfort station, the Garden Island newspaper reported.

The park will reopen upon completion of the project, which is tentatively set for early next year.

Shioi Construction was awarded $549,000 for the Häena Beach Park project, with $250,000 coming from the Hawai'i Tourism Authority in the form of a grant, and the balance to be financed through the county's capital improvement program.

"One of our top priorities is to expedite our CIP projects so jobs can be created and the economy will get a much-needed boost," Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. said in a news release. "I am pleased that the Häena project is moving forward."

The project will include building a new comfort station, sidewalks and parking stalls with ADA accessibility.
