Only a few box jellyfish found but warning remains

Warning signs remained posted in Waikíkí, but city lifeguards said the influx of box jellyfish had dropped off considerably.

Lifeguards found only 10 of the creatures on Waikíkí Beach yesterday morning. Lifeguards at other Oahu beaches have reported no jellyfish sightings of stings to beachgoers.

Beachgoers are still advised to check with lifeguards before entering the water until the jellyfish advisory period ends today.

On Tuesday, the peak day of this month's influx, more than 1,800 box jellyfish being spotted on Waikíkí Beach and more than 130 found at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The city on Tuesday said 169 people were treated for jellyfish stings by city lifeguards at Waikíkí and five at Ala Moana.
