The Ali'i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club, A-American Self Storage and the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers are conducting a drive to collect and send food and other goods to disaster victims in American Samoa and the Philippines.
Kealii Lum, president of the Ali'i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club, said the items will be earmarked for people in shelters and villages in American Samoa who may not be receiving adequate services. Lum said needed items include toiletries, linens, T-shirts and shorts for children, military cots and food.
A-American Self Storage has donated $25,000 to cover the shipping costs and DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express is offering a special shipping rate, Lum said. A-American also is providing drop-off points at its locations in Pearl City, Kalihi and on South Street in Kaka'ako.
Those who also want to donate goods for victims in the Philippines should make that designation when they drop off the items, he said. Donations will be accepted at the three locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
