Baseball: Tigers Bonderman suspended for 3 games

NEW YORK — Detroit Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman has been suspended for three games for intentionally hitting Minnesota’s Delmon Young on a knee with a pitch.
Bonderman, who also was fined, appealed the penalty assessed today by Major League Baseball vice president Bob Watson, delaying the start of the suspension.
Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon was suspended for one game and fined because Bonderman acted intentionally following warnings to both teams during Minnesota’s 8-3 win Thursday.
Minnesota pitcher Jose Mijares was fined for intentionally throwing behind former Twin Adam Everett. Tigers manager Jim Leyland and catcher Gerald Laird were fined for arguing with umpire Angel Hernandez.
