Police arrested a 44-year-old man near Ala Moana Center Tuesday night after he allegedly broke into a car belonging to a 30-year-old woman and was chased down by the woman.

Police said the woman was returning to her car about 7:15 p.m. after eating in a nearby restaurant when she saw the man walk past with her purse in his hand.

The woman confronted the man about the purse and he ran away, police said. The woman chased the man until he ran into a store, where the employees helped the woman detain him until police arrived.

After confirming the woman's car had been broken into, police arrested the man on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
