Man held on $250,000 bail after Honolulu police shot at him for fleeing
The man who was shot in the right rib area by Honolulu police officers Saturday morning after allegedly trying to flee in a stolen vehicle was charged tonight and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, said Honolulu Police Capt. Letha DeCaires.
Police charged Reinier Sales, 21, of Kalihi with attempted murder in the first degree, two charges of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and robbery in the first degree.
Police allege that Sales tried to flee after three plainclothes officers demanded he stop around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Makuahine Place near Kamehameha Shopping Center.
Instead of stopping, Sales allegedly revved his engine and attempted to drive away. Police fired three shots, according to a criminal investigations report.
The shooting was the third time that officers have shot and wounded suspects this month.
The other two officer-involved shootings occurred on Nov. 3 and Nov. 22.
