‘Precious,’ ‘Barbarian Princess’ top HIFF audience awards

“Precious,” based on the novel by Sapphire, and “Barbarian Princess” starring Q’orianka Kilcher tied for the favorite narrative feature audience award at the 29th annual Hawaii International Film Festival, HIFF officials announced today.
The ballots were distributed for the first screening of every eligible film at HIFF last month.
“Barbarian Princess,” was filmed in Hawai‘i and was a mix of a love story and the life and accomplishments of Princess Ka‘iulani. Marc Forby directed.
“Precious” is tentatively scheduled to be shown at Kahala 8 later this month and could be picked up by other local theaters.
In other audience awards, favorite documentary feature went to Hawai‘i-made “Pidgin: The Voice of Hawaii,” which was directed by Marlene Booth, and “Ajumma Are You Krazy?” was named favorite short film.
