Alaska Airlines is expanding its service this year between Hawai'i and the Mainland.

ADDED FLIGHTS: Alaska Airlines will begin service between Maui's Kahului airport and Oakland, Calif., four times a week beginning Nov. 9. The airline will also begin service between Kona on the Big Island and Oakland three times a week starting Nov. 10, and will expand its Honolulu-Seattle flights from once a day to two starting July 2. It's also bumping up the inaugural date of its first Maui-Portland, Ore., flights from Aug. 7 to July 3. www.alaskaairlines.com.

AQUA EXTENSION: Aqua Hotels & Resorts has extended its "Obama-rama" package at all 12 Aqua hotels in Waikiki through Dec. 31.

Aqua's "Obama-rama" rates start at $114 per night for Aqua Boutique hotels and $94 per night for Aqua Lite properties, a copy of "The Dream Begins-How Hawaii Shaped Barack Obama" by Hawai'i authors Stu Glauberman and Jerry Burris, and a rental car for each day booked (driver must be 25 years or older). 808-924-6543.

TAKING OVER: Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii has been named operator of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences. The property will be the company's first multi-unit hotel contract with on-site operations, management and marketing services. The Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences consists of a 15-story, 62-unit structure and features spacious studios and one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom resort condominium suites with oceanfront, partial ocean view, and mountain/Kapi'olani Park view options.

Oceanfront units include large lanai and views of the Pacific, and a full kitchen for extended stays and entertaining. Families and multigenerational travelers are easily accommodated with plenty of space for group gatherings and privacy.

On-site amenities include secured parking (daily fee $25), an oceanfront lawn/recreation area, and management office, concierge and activity services, catering services, and daily housekeeping options. Nightly rates at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences range from $115 to $155 for studios, $155 to $275 for one-bedroom suites, and $250 to $350 for two-bedroom suites. MARRIOTT AWARD: Kaua'i Marriott Resort & Beach Club was awarded the Marriott International Inc. Alice S. Marriott Award for Community Service, part of the company's global "Spirit To Serve Our Communities" initiative. The 356-room resort was honored last week at a Marriott Awards of Excellence ceremony, the company's highest form of recognition.

Kaua'i Marriott Resort is the second-largest private employer on Kaua'i. Together with other Marriott and Ritz Carlton properties on the island, the resort raised more than $35,000 in 2008 to benefit local charities such as Special Olympics and the Kaua'i Habitat for Humanity.

To help young people prepare for careers, hotel managers participate in job shadow days, career fairs and a scholarship program for students training for jobs in the travel industry. The resort also provides transitional employment and training for mentally challenged adults through a partnership with Friendship House.
