Warrior Brigade unveils memorial to its fallen at Schofield

A soldier placed a maile lei today at a new memorial at Schofield Barracks honoring 18 troops who died in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving with the 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. Soldiers and family members attended and the names of the dead were read during the dedication ceremony.

The 25th Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team paid tribute to its fallen this morning by unveiling a memorial at Schofield Barracks.

The 8-foot granite obelisk is inscribed with the names of the 18 members of the brigade who died in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Warrior Brigade returned in February from a 15-month deployment to Iraq. It also deployed in 2004.
While deployed, Warrior Brigade soldiers earned four Bronze Star Medals with the Valor device, along with 15 Army Commendation Medals with “V” device, and 35 Purple Heart Medals.
The unit lost 11 soldiers during its last deployment.
