HILO — The body of a 48-year-old Kealakekua woman who had been missing since May 4 was found early Tuesday evening, Hawaii County police said.
Acting on a tip, police and fire rescue personnel conducted an aerial search and found Everdina Malasig’s body in a lava field about 100 yards off the west shoulder of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and just south of the OTEC park entrance.
Police said they do not suspect foul play, but have ordered an autopsy.
At the time of her disappearance — she was last seen leaving Keahole Airport — Malasig was suffering from a medical condition requiring medication.
