Tennis: Murray beats Robredo at Madrid Open

MADRID — Defending champion Andy Murray has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Tommy Robredo of Spain.
Murray failed to convert seven break points before finally getting the decisive breakthrough to go up 6-5. He then held serve to take the first set.
Murray then began hitting long, accurate baseline shots and well-timed passers to dominate the second set.
On the women's side, Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine defeated Anna Chakvetadze of Russia, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
In later matches, it's top-ranked Rafael Nadal against Philipp Kohlschreiber, second-ranked Roger Federer against James Blake and women's No. 1 Dinara Safina against Lucie Safarova.
