Hawai'i's Stephanie Ricketts has earned her second Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honor this season.

The freshman from San Jose, Calif. pitched her second no-hitter of the season and posted a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA last week against Boise State. In the process she boosted her record to 21-9 (13-4 WAC) to become just the fifth pitcher in UH history to pass the 20-win mark.

Ricketts lowered her ERA to 1.90 and increased her season strikeout count to 173 — the fifth-highest single-season total in UH history.

The Rainbow Wahine open Western Athletic Conference Tournament play tomorrow in Fresno, Calif. against defending tourney champion Louisiana Tech.

TRACK AND FIELD

KAUFMAN HONORED

Hawai'i's Amber Kaufman, who set a school record in the high jump Sunday at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore from San Jose, Calif. leaped 6 feet, 3/4 inches to break her own mark of 6-1/2 set at last year's WAC Outdoor Championships. Kaufman finished second to Olympian Sharon Day, who also cleared 6-3/4 — the third-best mark in the country this season — but had fewer misses.

The Rainbow Wahine close the regular season Saturday in their final Sunset Series meet.

SOFTBALL

UMPIRES NEEDED

Umpires are being sought for fastpitch ASA youth leagues. Umpiring at that level could eventually lead to umpiring at the high school and collegiate levels.
