Preps: Tampa athletes to miss meet because of flu concerns

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. — Track athletes from a Tampa high school will miss the upcoming state championship meet because the threat of swine flu closed their school.

None of the 10 Freedom High School athletes has flu symptoms, but the school pulled them out of this Friday's state track championship in Orlando.

Freedom High and two middle schools were closed this week as a precaution because students from the schools are among five suspected cases of swine flu in Hillsborough County. None of the cases has been confirmed.

Senior pole vaulter Trent Wiseman said it's going to be tough to skip the meet after he worked so hard to get there.

The school district had no immediate comment.
