Bryan Clay skips Hypo Meeting due to lack of training

Associated Press

GOETZIS, Austria — Olympic decathlon champion Bryan Clay has decided to skip this month's Hypo Meeting because he is behind in training.

Hypo Meeting director Konrad Lerch announced on Monday that the Hawai'i-born 29-year-old Castle High alum started late with training in the post-Olympic season and was not yet ready to compete.

Clay holds the world indoor heptathlon title and was the 2005 outdoor decathlon champion.

Decathlon world record holder Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic and Jamaica's Maurice Smith, the silver medalist at the 2007 outdoor worlds, will lead the field at the Hypo Meeting, which will be held in Goetzis, Austria, on May 30-31.
