Disaster assistance available to Oahu victims of mid-December storms

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is available to O'ahu residents whose jobs suffered because of severe storms and flooding between Dec. 10 and 16, according to the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The assistance is available to people who lost jobs as well as those who weren't able to reach their work or self-employment location. There are other categories of people who may qualify for assistance, including those who couldn't work because of an injury due to the storms.

The assistance is the result of a request made by Gov. Linda Lingle late last year. People must apply for the assistance by April 20. Applications can be handled via telephone by calling the Hawai'i Tele-Claim system at 808-643-5555, or, visiting the nearest Unemployment Claims Office.
