The Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor, established in 1982 by Nissan Motor Corp. and currently maintained by the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association, will induct its 27th class of senior student-athletes this year.

Twelve student-athletes will receive $2,000 college scholarships and be formally inducted at the HHSAA Foundation Hall of Honor banquet on June 7 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

The 12 members of the Class of 2009 will be chosen by an independent selection committee that will focus primarily on athletic achievement, but also consider academic performance, participation in extra-curricular activities, involvement in community, sportsmanship, character and versatility in sports.

Seniors who are participating in any sport sanctioned by the HHSAA are eligible for consideration.

KICKING CAMP

Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance (PIAA) will be hosting a camp with KICK NATION, one of the premier kicking, punting and long snapping organizations in the nation, May 23-24 at Waialua High School.

Cost is $200 for two days, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., of evaluation, instruction and competition.

BASKETBALL

CLINIC FUND-RAISER

The Second Annual Kapunahala Basketball Clinic — a fund-raiser for Kapunahala Elementary School's Wellness Program — will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 30, 31 and April 1 at King Armory in Kane'ohe.

The clinic, open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 12, will feature Dennis Agena and other coaches from his Kalakaua Foundation Basketball Clinic.

Agena, a former high school assistant coach, is regarded as one of the state's top instructors of basketball fundamentals and counts many former high school and college standouts among his former students.

The wait list for his summer clinic runs to the year 2013.

Clinic fee is $60, and proceeds will benefit Kapunahala's physical education curriculum. Funds raised from last year's clinic enabled Kapunahala to add the SPARK program, which is designed specifically to promote lifelong wellness.

It is recommended that players attending the clinic have at least some basketball experience. They are asked to bring their own basketball (with name and phone number printed on it), water, basketball shoes and attire (shorts, T-shirt or tank top).
