NBA: Tarpley settles lawsuit with league, Mavericks

Associated Press

HOUSTON — Former NBA player Roy Tarpley has settled a federal lawsuit against the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks.

Tarpley filed the lawsuit in September 2007, claiming the league and team violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to reinstate him after a ban for drug use. He argued that he was discriminated against because he was a recovering drug and alcohol abuser.

The lawsuit was settled on Jan. 22, according to a filing signed by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Hoyt. Terms of the settlement could not be immediately determined and Joe Walker, Tarpley's attorney, did not immediately return a call on Monday.

Walker told KRIV-TV in Houston on Sunday that Tarpley's lawsuit had been resolved.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban did not immediately return an e-mail on Monday.
