Check out kids' film at Doris Duke
| |||
On the heels of its Persian Film Festival, the Doris Duke Theatre is screening "Azur & Asmar," an animated children's film set long ago in the Middle East.
Azur is a blonde, blue-eyed prince and Asmar is the dark-haired son of Azur's nanny, who treats both boys as her children, until Azur is sent to school, and Asmar and his mother are dismissed.
Azur never forgets the story of the Djinn Fairy his nanny told him as a child, and as an adult he heads across the sea to rescue the fairy. That's also exactly what Asmar intends to do.
Don't expect anything remotely like Disney's
"Aladdin." This film from French director Michel Ocelot has a distinctly foreign touch, but translated into English, it's suitable for kids of all ages.
Showtimes tomorrow are 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m., and the show repeats at various times through March 25.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, students and military and $5 for Honolulu Academy of Arts members.
