WHISTLER, British Columbia � Lars Berger led Norway to a 1-2 finish in the men's 10-kilometer individual sprint at a World Cup biathlon on Friday, and Helena Jonsson of Sweden captured gold in the women's 7.5K event.

Berger finished in 24 minutes, 6.5 seconds. World champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was second in 24:20.6 and Christoph Sumann of Austria was third in 24:46.0.

Earlier Friday, Jonsson shot a clean round in winning the women's individual sprint in 19:43.6. Germany's Magdaelena Neuner, a six-time world champion, was second in 19:44.3, while Olga Zaitseva of Russia was third in 19:45.2.

Jonsson overtook Kati Wilhelm of Germany for the lead in the overall standings. The Swede has 780 points, 16 more than Wilhelm.

The sprint event consists of athletes doing laps around a 2.5-kilometer track. Athletes enter the shooting range for a set of shots in the prone position, then one set standing before the final sprint to the finish. Athletes must ski a 150-meter penalty loop if they miss a target.
