Community health centers in Hawaii will receive more than $2.7 million from the economic stimulus package, U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye's office said today in a news release.
"The allocation of these vital stimulus funds is a reflection of the increased demand for services from community health centers during our current tough economic times," Inouye said in a statement.
"It is a time when the working poor, the uninsured, and the rural and high-risk populations must often choose between healthcare or putting food on the table."
The centers are likely to begin receiving their funds later this month. The funds will cover a two-year period.
Oahu centers receiving funds will be Kalihi-Palama Health Center ($342,984), Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center ($335,656), Waikiki Health Center ($210,619), Kokua Kalihi Valley ($209,258), Koolauloa Community Health and Wellness Center ($143,669) and Waimanalo Health Center ($140,768).
Big Island facilities are Bay Clinic Inc. ($253,278), Hamakua Health Center ($174,263) and West Hawaii Community Health Center ($162,502).
Maui facilities are Community Clinic of Maui ($216,915) and Hana Health ($118,807).
The Molokai Ohana Health Center gets $117,193, the Lanai Community Health Center $100,483 and the Hoola Lahui Hawaii/Kauai Community Health Center $174,155.
