Hawai'i junior forward Roderick Flemings was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference men's basketball second team and to the All-Newcomer Team, the conference announced yesterday.

UH sophomore guard Kareem Nitoto was named to the All-Defensive Team.

There were no WAC honors for the UH women's team although Idaho guard Shaena-Lyn Kuehu, a 2008 Punahou School graduate, was chosen to the All-Freshman Team.

Flemings, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound transfer from Weatherford College in Texas, led the WAC in minutes played (37.1 mpg) and was among the conference leaders in scoring (15.8 ppg), steals (1.44 spg) and offensive rebounding (2.19 rpg).

He scored in double figures in 15 of 16 league games and recorded two of his team-high five double-doubles in WAC play. He scored 20 or more points four times in WAC games, including a high of 27 points at New Mexico State.

Nitoto, a 6-foot-2, 185-pounder from Berkeley, Calif., helped the Rainbow Warriors finish third in WAC scoring defense (64.1 ppg), including a stretch in which the 'Bows held three straight opponents to under 50 points. Nitoto, who ranks second on the team with 31 steals, is regarded as the team's best on-ball defender.

Utah State forward Gary Wilkinson was named Player of the Year and the Aggies' Stew Morrill was voted Coach of the Year.

Louisiana Tech's Shanavia Dowdell was selected women's Player of the Year and Jon Newlee, a former UH assistant in his first season at Idaho, was voted Coach of the Year.

The Rainbow Wahine play San Jose State (2 p.m. HST) and the Rainbow Warriors meet Fresno State (4:30 p.m. HST) tomorrow in play-in games for the WAC Championship Tournament at Reno, Nev.
