A Schofield Barracks soldier died Saturday in Iraq of wounds he sustained in Tikrit, when an explosive device exploded near the vehicle he was riding in, the Department of Defense announced today.

The Pentagon identified him as 1st Lt. Daniel B. Hyde, 24, of Modesto, Calif., who died in Samarra, Iraq.

Hyde was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.
