The theme of the 12th Annual Honolulu Symphony Ball is "Ports of Call." To make the evening particularly special, the event committee would like attendees to feel they have taken a mini-vacation to exotic locales around the world. That's why silent auction co-chairwoman Cathy Foy thought it would be appropriate to involve local fashion designers in creating outfits that represent various parts (or ports) of the world, to be auctioned off to make extra funds for the financially strapped orchestra.
Foy asked The Advertiser to help her identify and engage up-and-coming fashion designers whose aesthetic would be suited to the task.
We asked designers Ida Teiti, Marie-Noelle Pouliot and Katie Bodnyk how they would interpret India, Africa and the South Pacific, respectively. Here are the results of their creative efforts.
