MMA fight with Mayhem Miller and Hose postponed till April 18

The date for the inaugural show of the Kingdom MMA organization — featuring Jason "Mayhem" Miller against Kala Kolohe Hose in the main event — has been changed due to a paperwork issue.

The card is now scheduled for April 18 at the Blaisdell Center Arena. It was originally scheduled for April 3.

T. Jay Thompson, president of the new Kingdom MMA organization, said he was told today by state officials that all fighters on the card need to have their medical paperwork completed by a licensed Hawai'i doctor at least 30 days in advance of the show.

Miller had his medical paperwork completed, but by a doctor in California.

"We thought that was good enough, and it has been in the past," Thompson said. "There's no state in the union that requires medicals be done in-state, and 30 days in advance. This is a new law that will affect business, no question."

Miller was scheduled to see a doctor in Honolulu today so that the April 18 show could proceed. He is the only Mainland-based fighter on the card.

"You want to talk about killing business," Thompson said. "If I have to fly in fighters just to have their medicals done a month out, then fly them back here again a couple weeks later for the fight ... that's not easy."

Thompson said tickets will remain on sale at the Blaisdell box office, and tickets already purchased will be honored on April 18.

"We're still going to have our show and hopefully bring revenue into the economy like we wanted to," Thompson said. "But they're certainly making it difficult for us."
