Kauai bus begins on-call service to Navy missile range today
The Kaua'i Bus begins on-call service to the Pacific Missile Range Facility today for anyone authorized to go on the Navy base.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. called the service "a fine example of what can be accomplished through partnerships to serve the needs of our communities."
The new service allows riders to request a pick-up between 8:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. at the north or main gate at PMRF on route 100, which normally runs between Kekaha and Lihu'e.
Requested drop-offs can be made on the base between 8:03 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on route 200, which normally runs between Lihu'e and Kekaha.
To accommodate the service to PMRF, bus stops on Akialoa Rd. in Kekaha will be reversed. The current route 100 stop will be used for route 200. Conversely, the current route 200 stop will be used for route 100.
Bus passes cost $15 a month for unlimited travel.
