Bikers gathering to help children ride horses

Advertiser Staff

Vehicles that transform into titanic robots may save the world from apocalyptic destruction, but that only happens in the movies.

In real life, it's the riders who make the difference.
Axl Deacon was born with a skull that was not growing fast enough to accommodate his brain. His insurance company had limitations, so his grandfather Mark Deacon held the “Axl Gearhead Classic” to raised funds for the surgery with the help of the motorcycle community. With its success, Mark decided the event should happen every year to help out more kids.
“Prostreet Gearhead Classic II” will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The event will be at Kapaa Quarry Industrial complex this weekend for a family day of bikes, cars, live music, roller derby, rock crawling, pony rides, petting zoo, games and food. General admission is $20 and it’s free for kids under the age of 10.
Deacon partnered up with motorcycle enthusiast, Dana Vennen, who is the executive director of Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii, to fundraise money for special needs children.
“Guys on bikes helping out kids on horses, how cool is that?” Deacon said in a press release. “It’s really fantastic when you can have an event like this to bring everyone together to do something good for someone.”
This year’s event will provide six-week scholarships for Hawaii’s special needs kids and children of active duty servicemen and women who have been deployed to ride at Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii.
Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii provides horsemanship and horseback riding to benefit individuals physically, mentally and emotionally.
