Ala Moana, Maili beach parks will stay open overnight July 3

Advertiser Staff

Ala Moana and Maili beach parks will remain open overnight on Friday, July 3, to allow park users to reserve a space for Independence Day celebrations, the city said yesterday.

Rules that close the parks overnight will be suspended for one night only to accommodate the large amount of requests for picnic areas for the 4th of July fireworks displays and family gatherings.
All picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fireworks displays are scheduled at Ala Moana, Maili and Maunalua Bay. The Hawaii Kai Dog Park will retain its regular night closure hours.
Picnic permits will not be issued for July 3 and 4 at any of the parks where approved, licensed fireworks displays will occur. Camping, gatherings and celebrations will not be allowed overnight on July 3. Those reserving a picnic space are asked to be quiet during the late night hours.
Parking will not be allowed overnight on July 3 at Ala Moana Beach Park. All vehicles must leave the park at 10 p.m. Parking will reopen at 4 a.m. on July 4. Police officers will monitor and use appropriate enforcement at the parks.
