Swimming: Pellegrini sets world record in 400 freestyle

PESCARA, Italy — Federica Pellegrini of Italy has set a world record in the 400-meter freestyle at the Mediterranean Games.
Pellegrini, the Olympic champion and world record-holder in the 200 freestyle, finished in 4 minutes, 0.41 seconds on Saturday to lower the mark of Jo Jackson of Britain by 0.25 seconds.
Jackson had a 4:00.65 finish in March at the British swimming championships to break Pellegrini's world record.
Coralie Balmy of France was second Saturday in 4:05.37. Erika Villaecija Garcia of Spain took bronze.
