Seven members of a summer study trip to South Korea have been transferred to a hospital while they undergo testing for swine flu.
That’s in addition to the five other members of the trip who have confirmed cases of the virus and are being quarantined at a separate hospital, said Ruth Limtiaco, spokeswoman for the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, which organized the trip.
The remaining eight students on the trip and their four chaperons remain confined to a Seoul hotel.
The students arrived in Seoul on Monday and were due to return to the Islands on July 5.
Limtiaco said those at the Seoul hotel “remain in good spirits.”
“They are doing their lessons and homework, reading, watching English language television and DVDs,” Limtiaco said in a press release.
“They complain of boredom. The students in the hotel are confined to their rooms. The students at the hospital are watching television, including the favorite Korean dramas and variety shows.”
Limtiaco said it’s unclear when the students will be cleared, but a representative with the Korean consulate in Honolulu said the quarantine likely won’t be lifted until Friday or the weekend, depending on when they started to show symptoms.
