The Hawaii high school students quarantined in South Korea come from all over the state.

The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council says three are from Waianae, two each from Farrington, Roosevelt and UH Lab School, and one each from Aiea, Kauai, Kealakehe, Lahainaluna, Lanai, Laupahoehoe, Mililani, Moanalua, Nanakuli, Radford, Waiakea and Waipahu.
Juanito Dinong, whose 17-year-old daughter Brittni of Waianae High is on the trip, said he’s been assured that all of the kids are fine and that there’s nothing to worry about.
His daughter tested negative for the flu.
Dinong said he has been in contact with his daughter, who told him she was OK, and with her chaperons.
“All I was concerned about was for her safety,” Dinong said.
He added he hasn’t heard much about what’s going to happen next, and whether the kids will resume their trip.
“Some situations, you can’t foresee,” Dinong said. “Unfortunately, they went to South Korea. There were a lot of things they were going to do. Now, they can’t really do the plans they were going to do. To me, that’s life. If you look it in a positive way, it’s a good learning experience.”
The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, which organized the trip and selected the students, repeated today that pre-trip health screening was required.
Students had to submit a doctor’s certificate to the PAAC to clear them for travel.
The PAAC said that one student dropped out of the trip because of illness, but not the flu.
