The University of Hawai'i said it will shortly put tickets on sale for the Warriors' football road games — and add a "Road Warrior" priority seating plan.
UH has six road appearances this season beginning with back-to-back games against Washington State Sept. 12 in Seattle and at Nevada-Las Vegas Sept. 19.
Members of the 'Ahahui Koa Anuenue booster club, corporate sponsors and season ticket holders have been able to purchase tickets for road games in a UH priority area. Beginning this season, non-season ticket holders and Mainland fans may also purchase tickets in the priority areas under the "Road Warrior" program.
For a $50 donation, which will go to the athletic scholarship fund, UH said non-season ticket holders and Mainland fans may purchase up to four tickets per game in a priority seating area ahead of the general public.
"There has definitely been a growing demand for these seats," said Vince Baldemor, president of the booster club.
UH said it will have at least 2,250 tickets for the game at Qwest Field against the Cougars and 8,000 tickets for the UNLV game. But Baldemor said the home schools "have told us we can have what we need."
The Warriors' last appearance in Las Vegas in 2007 drew 38,125. An estimated 15,000 were either from Hawai'i or had Island ties. Sam Boyd Stadium lists a capacity of "36,800, with the ability to seat more than 40,000 when called for."
A WSU spokesman said it was "too early" to tell how much of a crowd is expected for its game but estimated in the "40,000s."
The game was originally contracted for the Cougars' Pullman, Wash., campus but was moved to Seattle where they have played a "home" game every year since 2002. Qwest Field, the home of the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL, opened in 2002 and lists a seating capacity of 67,000.
UH has said it expects "significant" interest from UH alumni and transplanted Islanders in the area.
