The Diocese of Honolulu last month launched an official Blessed Damien Canonization Web site offering the latest news on activities related to the Roman Catholic Church's plan to declare the priest a saint, the first from Hawai'i. A passionate advocate for the good of the people under his care, Damien De Veuster died in 1889 after serving Hansen's Disease patients at Kalaupapa, Moloka'i, having contracted the disease himself. The Web site incorporates a multilingual Damien biography, a history of his work and the canonization effort, a calendar of events, a resource guide, prayers and testimonies, details on pilgrimage travel to Belgium (Damien's original home) and Rome (where the canonization will take place in October), even a shop for Damien mementos. The Web site address is fatherdamien.com.
