New exhibit by local artist reflects on childhood in Hokkaido

An exhibit featuring whimsical collages by local artist Sumako Cohn opens to the public at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, with free gallery admission and light refreshments for the opening only.

Cohn’s work, a nostalgic look back at growing up in Hokkaido, Japan, will be on display at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiçi through Oct. 3. Cohn will teach origami classes on Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and cut-out card making workshops Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
After the opening, admission will still be free for JCCH members, but general admission will be $5 for residents and $7 for everyone else. The workshops cost an additional $8 and require reservations.
