Water polo: US, Serbia advance in water polo semis

ROME — Merrill Moses stopped 10 of 15 shots and eight players scored for the United States, which defeated Germany 8-5 in the quarterfinals of men’s water polo at the world championships.

Ryan Bailey scored with 6› minutes left in the third quarter Tuesday, sparking four straight goals by the Americans. The U.S. will face the winner of the Spain-Canada match in Thursday’s semifinals.
Serbia moved on to the semifinals when Filip Filipovic scored with 1:37 remaining in extra time for a 10-9 victory over Hungary. The Serbians took advantage of a man-advantage after a foul.
Serbia will face the winner of the Croatia-Romania match.
