University of Hawai'i baseball coach Mike Trapasso said he is removing himself from consideration for the University of Washington's vacant coaching job.
"I am withdrawing from the UW (search) and am very much looking forward to a great year at UH in 2010," Trapasso said in a brief e-mail.
He added, "I won't be commenting further."
They were Trapasso's first comments on the situation since July 1 when Internet reports began linking his name to the vacancy left by the firing of Ken Knutson.
Trapasso was reportedly one of at least five coaches that UW administrators initially contacted about the job. As of Friday, at least three, including Trapasso, had either withdrawn their names or turned down the position.
A UW spokesman said this week there was no immediate timetable for a hiring.
UH athletic director Jim Donovan declined comment.
Trapasso, who is 255-216 in eight seasons at UH, received a one-year extension through the 2010 season in May.
