Johnson, Cadell swim to victory

Kacy Johnson and Kimberlee Cadell were the overall winners yesterday in the Chun's to Waimea Bay swim, the third leg of the Surf N Sea North Shore Swim Series.
Johnson finished the 1.6-mile course in 29 minutes, 54.8 seconds. John Flanagan was second in 30:07.5 and Eric Diiulio third in 32:41.0.
Cadell led the women's field in 35:32.7, followed by Kate Costello (35:37.2) and Rachel Randall (35:57.3).

HPU WOMEN'S TEAM SIGNS FOUR
The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team announced the signing of four recruits, including three from Hawai'i high schools, for the 2009 season.
Joining the Sea Warriors will be Kauanani Wall (Konawaena High), Amber Fuller (Kamehameha Schools), Liana Gualdarama (Kapolei High) and Dyanne Anderson, a recent graduate of Dana Hills High in Dana Point, Calif.
Wall was named the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year. Fuller played four seasons under HPU head coach Michele Nagamine at Kamehameha and was named to the All-State first team. Gualdarama also was named to the All-State first team. Anderson played for the Southern California Blues, called one of the top soccer clubs in the country by Nagamine.
The Sea Warriors, who enter their second season under Nagamine, open Aug. 27 against visiting Westminster College from Salt Lake City.

MILILANI PONY 13 WINS OPENER, 12-1
Jimmy Madrid pitched four shutout innings with six strikeouts, and Rayson Romero batted 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs as Mililani routed Cypress, Calif., 12-1, in the P.O.N.Y. Pony 13 West Zone Tournament at Fullerton, Calif.
Trevor Ling pitched the final inning for Mililani in a game shortened to 4 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule.
J.C. Dejesus tripled and scored twice for Mililani.
Mililani scored four in the first, three in the third and five in the fourth.
Mililani (1-0) will play Westhills, Calif. (1-0) today at 2:30 p.m. (Hawai'i time).
