North Shore resident Peter Cole was honored last week at the second annual Peter Cole Invitational, a surfboard polo tournament at Waimea Bay. Cole was a top collegiate swimmer and water polo player before becoming a big wave surfer.

The Paumalu Surf Polo Club defeated Team Wahoos in the championship game. Entry fees from this event were donated to the Surfrider Foundation-O'ahu Chapter. Read more at www.myadvertiser.com/northshore.

KEIKI HULA FESTIVAL BEING HELD THIS WEEKEND AT LAHAINA CANNERY MALL

Maui's tiny dancers are showcasing their skills this weekend at the 11th annual Keiki Hula Festival, hosted by Lahaina Cannery Mall. Four halau danced yesterday, with another four on tap today, performing every other hour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The weekend celebration also features Hawaiian artisans and crafters demonstrating lei making, wood carving and other traditional skills. It's free and open to the public. Read more at www.myadvertiser.com/maui.

WAIPAHU RAIL STATIONS DESIGNED WITH COMMUNITY INPUT; 2 WORKSHOPS ON TAP

The Waipahu community helped develop designs for the area's two planned Honolulu rail-transit stations during workshops in April and June. The designs were unveiled at a community workshop July 8 at Waipahu Intermediate School. WWII AIR, SEA BATTLES TOPIC AT LIBRARY

The 'Aiea Public Library will host "Air and Sea Battles of the Pacific: World War II 1941-1945" at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the meeting room. 94G TEAM TAKES FIRST IN BEAVERTON CUP

CRUSH Soccer Academy's 94G team placed first, going undefeated in their division at the Beaverton Cup Soccer Tournament in Oregon last weekend.

The 97G Nalu team placed second in their division, losing in a shootout in the championship round.

A final tryout session will be held next Sunday at Waialae Iki Field for the upcoming fall season, for boys and girls in the U11 to U16 age groups.

SPECIAL NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD MEETING TO ADDRESS RIVER STREET HOUSING PROJECT

The Downtown Neighborhood Board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Pauahi Community Center to discuss a master plan for the greater Chinatown area. The meeting will address the River Street Residences, a proposed housing project for the homeless at the corner of River Street and Vineyard Boulevard.

DENTIST AND AUTHOR TO READ FROM HIS NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK AT WINDWARD MALL

Pediatric dentist Brent Ching will read from his new children's book, "The Little Lima Bean" next Sunday at the Borders Books & Music store at Windward Mall. The reading will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a book signing until 3.
