MLB: Yanks send Wang to specialist, await word on shoulder injury

NEW YORK — Chien-Ming Wang’s next move is a flight to Birmingham, Ala., on Monday to visit Dr. James Andrews. The visit, which Wang said will include another MRI exam on his ailing right shoulder, will be conducted Tuesday, after which the Yankees will finally know whether Wang needs surgery or more rest.
Wang, out since July 6, has now been examined by Yankees team physician Christopher Ahmad and Mets team physician David Altchek.
Wang has a history with Andrews, who operated on the same shoulder in 2001, Wang’s second year in the Yankees system. Wang also consulted with Andrews in 2005, his rookie year with the big club.
A NEW ONE ON JETER
Derek Jeter has probably seen it all in baseball, but even he was surprised by Athletics starter Dallas Braden’s pickoff in the sixth inning.
Jeter had just singled in the tying and go-ahead runs, and Braden was almost lifted for a reliever. He stayed in, though, and with Jeter just a step or two off the bag, Braden delivered a snap throw that nearly hit Jeter and froze him off first, allowing Daric Barton to tag Jeter out.
“I thought it was going to hit me,” Jeter said. “I had no lead, I was like 2 feet off. I just was like, ’He’s throwing it right at me.’ That’s the key, I guess. Throw it at you. Never seen that one before.”
