Just hours after her criminal case was dismissed Thursday in a Wailuku courtroom, a woman was arrested when she was allegedly seen breaking into a rental car in West Maui.

Dara Holl, 37, of Wailuku, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Lahaina Police Station. She was charged with two counts of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Holl was arrested Thursday after she was seen getting out of a vehicle and approaching the car, which was parked at Honolua Bay, said police Lt. Chad Viela of the Lahaina Criminal Investigation Division. He said Holl was seen entering the rental car and removing a wallet.

Police officers who were in the area saw Holl and arrested her along with 39-year-old Shannon Kinores of Lahaina, Viela said. He said Kinores was in the driver's seat of the vehicle that Holl had been in.

During the police investigation, Holl was found to be in possession of stolen property that had been taken in a car break-in earlier that day, Viela said.

Police made the arrests at 11:40 a.m., less than three hours after Holl left a 2nd Circuit Courtroom following a hearing that ended at 9:05 a.m. Thursday.

At the hearing, a case charging Holl with a December car break-in in West Maui was dismissed at the request of the prosecution. A deputy prosecutor cited the unavailability of witnesses in asking for dismissal of the case, which had been scheduled for trial today.

The dismissal was granted without prejudice, meaning the prosecution could decide to bring the charge against Holl again. She had been free since March, when she was released on supervision in the case, court records show.

Holl is on probation for multiple car break-ins.
