Nogawa's ahi tops record catch in Wai'anae tourney

Lane Nogawa netted the top prize at the Wai'anae Boat Fishing Club's Ahi Fever Tournament.
Nogawa, captain of Lur-Ker, won $10,000 for catching the largest 'ahi of the two-day tournament. His 232.4-pound catch was made June 21.
Jesse Brub, captain of the Kai'olo'hia, netted $5,000 with the largest ahi catch of the day of 228 pounds on June 20. The Kai'olo'hia also had the largest ono of 37.4 pounds on June 21 to win $1,500.
Mike De Rego's Maggie Joe won $3,000 after catching a 507-pound marlin on June 21.
The Nalani Kai II, captained by Clarence Adams, won $3,500 by catching seven 'ahi totaling 1,207.6 pounds.
About 200 boats participated in the two-day tournament in waters off of Wai'anae. A record 262 fish were caught weighing 37,221 pounds.Ahi Fever Tournament | at Wai'anae
