Parents can show off their wee ones at the Meadow Gold Dairies’ annual Healthy Baby Contest, which is accepting registration for participants through Aug. 23.
An island tradition since 1953, the Healthy Baby Contest this year there will feature an online People’s Choice photo contest open only to the top 50 finalists. The public will be invited to log on to Meadow Gold’s Web site in September and vote for their favorite finalist.
The contest itself takes place each year in September, with hundreds of toddlers competing. The keiki are judged on physical appearance, healthiness and personality, with each category scored on a 50-point scale. The preliminary rounds narrow the field to 50 finalists. In the final round, the five highest-scoring babies are each awarded a U.S. savings bond ranging from $500 to $2,500 from Meadow Gold Dairies of Hawaii as well as numerous toys and prizes.
“We look forward to the Healthy Baby Contest every year because it’s a unique way for proud parents to showcase their kids’ health and personality, and it gives us the opportunity to promote good health and nutrition,” Meadow Gold Dairies assistant sales manager Joni Marcello said in a release.
The annual Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contest, staged in partnership with the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees, helps raise community awareness of the importance of teaching children good health and nutrition habits at an early age. Establishing proper habits starting in early childhood promotes lifelong healthy living. Neighbor island Healthy Baby Contests are held in conjunction with the county fairs; dates for registration vary.
