The Honolulu Police Commission has begun to run advertisements in search of a new police chief.
The ads are scheduled to begin running tomorrow in daily Honolulu newspapers, including The Advertiser.
The ad will also be posted on the International Association of Chiefs of Police Web site, commission officials said.
Police Chief Boisse Correa's five-year contract ends in August. The commission in May chose not to offer him a new contract and decided to seek a new police chief.
The recruitment announcement says the job pays $136,236 a year, plus $2,496 in "standard of conduct" pay.
Minimum qualifications include U.S. citizenship, a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent, and five years of law enforcement experience, including three in a "responsible administrative capacity."
The contract is for five years. Applications must be turned in to the commission office by July 24.
A consultant is being hired to help a citizen-based selection committee come up with a short list of recommended candidates from which the commission would choose a new chief.
Correa's last day is Aug. 27.
Deputy Chief Paul Putzulu will serve as acting chief until a new chief is sworn in.
