Hey everyone, the Black Eyed Peas are coming to Bayfest!

Thought we should give another shout out to Fergie and Co., because the announcement of their Aug. 15 performance was overshadowed by the death of Michael Jackson last week.

But what (rightly so), wasn't?

Tom Moffatt, the promoter bringing in BEP, became Hawai'i's conduit to the King of Pop because he was also the promoter for Jackson's 1997 concert here on O'ahu. Had to be a little weird for Tom. No matter how much the businessman in Moffatt would have wanted to talk about Bayfest, America or No Doubt — all bands he's bringing to O'ahu in August — he only talked about Jackson when every news organization on O'ahu visited his office last week.

And he talked, and talked, and talked. His unique perspective was appreciated by all, and he later added a few more closing thoughts:

"I have never seen anything like the buzz the day Michael died," Moffatt said. "Even when Elvis Presley died (a concert he also promoted), I only did a national news conference at the site of the concert, but locally it wasn't near the coverage Michael Jackson created."...

One final note about Michael Jackson's passing: It's sad that it took his dying to put the King of Pop's songs back on the radio. He was a musical genius. Eccentric and a bit off, yes, but his music will remain relevant the same way Elvis's music has survived the test of time.

We just wish it wouldn't have taken his death to make us remember how incredible he really was. ...

Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk is dropping inflatable red, white and blue rafts into its pool tonight so both tourists and kama'aina can check out a free showing of the movie "Top Gun." Chaise lounges are also available, and the moonlight movie (8 p.m. start) is the hotel's way of kicking off the Fourth of July weekend. They're also offering $199 summer rates. ...

Tonight and tomorrow are the last chances to catch the original Society of Seven Classic's encore performances with the SOS-LV band at the Outrigger Main Showroom. The Classic cast is back as part of the 40th Anniversary Celebration. Tonight's show starts at 8:30 p.m., and tomorrow's starts at 6:30 p.m. The early showtime is so viewers can still catch the Fourth of July fireworks off Waikiki Beach. ...

Mark it down, HBO's "Hung" is the next "Entourage." It's been a long time since we've seen a show this clever. If you missed its debut Sunday, no worries. It gets better with each of the first four episodes we got to preview. It's all about a middle-aged man who comes to realize his one saving grace is that he's been — as the series title would indicate — blessed. You have to take the show creator's word for living up to the title because no male frontal nudity is shown. Trust us, it's in good taste and you'll love it. ...
