Mystical Rose hosts 3 seminars

Jim and Susan Vogt will hold a series of events at the Mystical Rose Oratory on the Chaminade University/Saint Louis School campus, covering topics of social justice and parenting for peace:

  • "Families Creating Circles of Peace — Family Tips for Getting Along," free lecture, 7 p.m. March 11.

  • "Think Globally, Act Locally," social justice workshop, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March 14; cost: $15 ($20 at the door).

  • "Upside Down Families — Challenges to Christian Families Today," free Mackey Lecture Series event, 4 p.m. March 15.

    Jim Vogt is director of Marianist Social Justice Collaborative; Susan Vogt is an adviser to the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Marriage and Family Life, and author of "Just Family Nights."

    JESUIT PRIEST LEADS 'FAITHLIFT'

    The Rev. Paul Coutinho, a Jesuit priest and author who has taught in the United States for many years, will lead a four-hour "Faithlift" session beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Newman Center, 1941 East West Road, on the University of Hawai'i-Manoa campus (near the Korean studies center).

    The session combines his wisdom of Eastern and Western cultures.

    Cost: $10 (includes breakfast and lunch).

    CENTERING PRAYER FOCUS OF EVENTS

    The Contemplative Outreach of Hawaii is offering two events focusing on centering prayer:

  • "A Morning of Centering Prayer," 9-11:30 a.m. Feb. 21, Central Union Church, Women's Building; free.

  • "Weekend Centering Prayer Lenten Retreat," 5 p.m. Feb 27 to 1 p.m. March 1, St. Anthony's Retreat Center in Kalihi Valley; $220.
