Many federal, state, county offices to be closed Friday

Many state, county and federal offices will be closed Friday and employees have been given administrative leave due to the potentially dangerous weather conditions.

The leave does not apply to department civil defense coordinators, disaster response workers and other essential workers.

Here are details on specific agencies:

  • TheBus: holiday schedule

  • TheBoat: all trips canceled Friday

  • O'ahu trash pickup: regular schedule

  • H-1 Freeway Zipper Lane: not in use

  • Employees of state-run hospitals and healthcare facilities are considered essential workers and should report to work Friday, said Miles Takaaze, public affairs director for the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation.

    Those facilities include West Kaua'i Medical Center and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Kaua'i, Leahi Hospital and Maluhia on O'ahu, Maui Memorial Medical Center and Kula Hospital on Maui, and Lana'i Community Hospital, as well as Big Island facilities.

  • Maui County announced that all non-essential workers should not report to work. However, employees of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office should report to work.

  • The U.S. District Court in Honolulu will be closed Friday, clerk of the courts Sue Beitia said. Court business scheduled for tomorrow will be rescheduled.

  • Kaua'i County announced that all of its offices are scheduled to be open on Friday.

  • The Zipper Lane on the H-1 Freeway will not be in use Friday to avoid the risk of flooding, Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tammy Mori said.

  • The State Judiciary said all courts, programs and services on the islands of Kaua'i, O'ahu, Maui, Moloka'i and Lana'i will be closed Friday.

    Chief court administrators, administrative department heads, disaster response personnel/facilities maintenance staff members shall report to work, along with those responsible for the Juvenile Detention Home. All others do not report to work.

    For the island of Hawai'i, the Judiciary shall remain open and operational, and all employees are to report to work on the Big Island.

    Employees can call the Judiciary's emergency automatic messaging system at 539-INFO/4636 for information.

  • VA Pacific Island Health Care System Director Dr. James Hastings has ordered that all VA facilities will be closed on Friday.

    Facilities include the Spark M. Matsunaga VA Medical Center located on Tripler Army Medical Center Hill and all neighbor island VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics with the exception of Guam and American Samoa.
