UH-Hilo, Chaminade players honored as PacWest players of week

Two players from local NCAA Division II colleges were honored by the Pacific West Conference yesterday.
WOMEN'S HONOR
Hawai'i Hilo junior guard Hina Kimitete (Konawaena) led the Vulcans to a 3-0 week and 2-0 start in PacWest play to earn the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor.
The award is for games played Jan. 5-11.
Kimitete averaged 14.7 points over three three games. She made 17 of 26 field goal attempts, including 10 of 16 3-point shots.
MEN'S HONOR
Chaminade senior center Mohamed Tangara, who led the Silverswords to a pair of road conference victories, earned the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award.
The honor is for games played from Jan. 5-11.
Tangara averaged 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Silverswords knocked off Notre Dame de Namur and Grand Canyon, the latter in double-overtime. He also averaged 2.0 blocks per game.
